I will occasionally comment on the topic of "Christianity and Culture." I have been interviewed on this topic for several years by numerous radio stations from across the country.
Given a few other unorthodox statements Pope Francis has made since he assumed office, it should not surprise us to hear his denying the existence of hell. Not so long ago, many of us may recall his saying "Who am I to judge?" when he was asked about homosexual behavior. He made this remark even though the Catechism of the Catholic Church (1994) clearly states homosexual acts "are contrary to the natural law." The Catechism also states that hell is the location of the damned, and it further asserts that Jesus taught hell was the place of the condemned. Thus, Pope Francis appears to be a law unto himself or, worse, a heretic in papal garb.
